Winter Birdwatch start:09:30 ** NOT LIVE ** Join the Matts, expert birders Matt Capper and Matt Vickers, for a morning of winter birdwatching in the heart of Wilder Doddington. The leaves may have dropped from the trees and the Swallows may have headed south, but winter is still a wonderful time to be out birding. Many species travel to the UK to escape harsher weather further north, bringing new sights and sounds to the landscape. As we explore Wilder Doddington, we will look out for Redwings and Fieldfares in the hedgerows, along with wildfowl and waders on the wetlands such as Snipe, Lapwing and, if we are lucky, Jack Snipe.Farmland birds such as Skylark, Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting should also be present in good numbers, while a marauding Peregrine or Sparrowhawk may bring a sudden burst of drama. This guided winter birdwatch will be led by Wilder Doddington Conservation Adviser Matt Capper and local birder Matt Vickers. Together, they will take you beyond the public footpaths and into the heart of the Wilder Doddington landscape. No experience is needed, just a keen interest in birds and wildlife. Please bring binoculars if you have them.- The meeting point is The Wild House. Free parking is available.- This is a practical outdoor session and will involve walking approximately 2–4km over uneven ground. We regret that, due to the nature of the terrain, this event is not suitable for wheelchair users.- The event will go ahead in wet weather, but may be rescheduled if conditions are severe.- This event is suitable for ages 16+.
